How best can I discover what is up with my electrical bill? +1 for Blueline's products. See my answer at diy.stackexchange.com/questions/3836/how-can-i-audit-my-furnace/… for a personal account of using it (including some of the free Microsoft Hohm graphs it'll produce). Total cost to me was about $150. |

Removing Excess Blind Material Save your extra slats as well. Metal/vinyl blinds can get bends crimped in them that you can't remove. Wood/vinyl blinds can become brittle from the sun's UV rays and break. Much cheaper to replace one or two slats from spares than to replace the whole unit. A replacement slat will probably not quite match color-wise at first with the others since they'd have faded, but if it's put as the top or bottom slat, it'll likely be hard to notice. |

How do I get leftover tape stickiness off of plastic surfaces? +1 for Goo Gone, though I did use it to remove sticker residue from an HP printer once and it removed the very slight texture on the plastic leaving a smooth finish instead. Also, the "more tape" solution often works wonders especially with duct tape. |

How do I treat / maintain IKEA Platta wood patio tiles? @mummey, no problem at all. No offense intended. @James Van Huis's answer seems pretty reasonable to me so I'd go with that. |

What are some scalable, affordable home automation options? +1 for the EnergyHub mention. I was looking for something exactly like this but couldn't find anything available at a reasonable price yet. |

Should I supporting a load via anchors in brick or mortar? A brand new quality masonry bit and a regular drill got each hole drilled in about a minute a piece. The Tapcon-type screws held really well and would support a much heavier load as you suggest. Thanks! |
