comment How do I repair this leaking toilet supply nut?
Is that brass bolt in its original position? Is it holding the tube coming from the right in place or was it helping hold the bolt against the toilet body (ie: is it supposed to be more to the left?)

This question confuses me greatly. Please edit it, insert paragraph breaks, and read your question from the mindset of, "What will a person who has no idea what I'm talking about think I'm asking?"

comment How can I prevent water from getting behind the gutter?
Exactly - the idea is to put the new row of shingles under the existing row, with a proper overhang. The old shingles lay on the new shingles, water runs from the old onto the new, and then into the gutter.

Well, we're not interested in this community becoming the how-to site for doing it wrong. I don't know if your particular situation is currently safe or not, but I (and I dare say we here at DIY SE) do care that answers give advice on how to do things safely and properly, not dangerously.

comment Should I run laminate continuously through rooms, or separate with T moulding?
The spacing questions are specific to the product you're using, and the aesthetic part is purely subjective.

comment How can I get my third floor radiators working?
Turning off the radiator will not accumulate water pressure, but it will ensure that it doesn't get hot. Turn it back on.

comment How to wire in my replacement fluorescent light fixture?
Generally true but not always. When you introduce a switch into the mix you're going to end up with wire uses not necessarily correlating to their colors. For instance, if your line comes into the switch box, and you go black to the switch, and black from the switch to the light, then black is hot, yes, but it's connected to the neutral terminal on the switch.

comment What is the proper way to clean a paintbrush and metal pan with KleanStrip paint thinner?
I supplied multiple links supporting my claims regarding the nature of mineral spirits and the nature of bedrock and aquifers. One was even a picture that I'm sure a child could understand. Please provide proof supporting yours, if you can find any that is remotely credible.

There is a difference between insulting a person an criticizing a suggestion. Your suggestion is ignorant, foolish, and your understanding of geology is badly flawed. Aquifers exist both above and below bedrock, which is by no means consistent in its thickness or depth. imnh.isu.edu/digitalatlas/hydr/concepts/gwater/imgs/5comp.jpg Further, if you are unwilling to check your own understanding in the face of it being challenged, instead preferring to insist that you're right, then all we can hope for is this answer is voted down so much that no others are taken in by it.

As for seepage - please, go talk to a High School geology teacher and present your ideas about how ground water works to you. If it couldn't go anywhere once it was in the ground, you'd live on swamp. Especially if you happen to live on bedrock that is solid, which is actually kind of rare - because all that water couldn't get past the bedrock to begin with. Ground water - aka the water table - feeds wells, springs, and eventually makes it way (slowly) back into the general eco system. Your suggestion is not simply bad, it's ignorant, foolish, and dangerous to others.

Harmless as mineral spirits? wisegeek.com/what-are-mineral-spirits.htm If they're so harmless why don't you drink yourself a glass of them.

How old is your house? It sounds like it's probably older, in which case, has it been recently upgraded to be air tight?
