I hate learning new things, because it only serves to show me how little I really know.

comment How long does sealing a driveway take?
As it turns out, the answer is "about 10 minutes", because we decided that it would take too long to do ourselves and hired someone to do it.

@Michael - Not sure if you're saying the same thing, but the #300 was may idea of a safety margin - the static weight would be around #100, so I doubled that for the bouncing and swinging and added 50% margin.

I searched for a few of your terms like "simply supported" to find formulas, and they're more complex than I expected. And of course, they involve diff eq, which didn't really surprise me, but it mostly puts it out of my reach for the time being.

That Y mounting is an awesome idea. It will also make the actual hanging easier, since it turns out to be rather difficult to reach the middle of a 10-foot span from a straight ladder against a tree.

This gives me some great food for thought and things to look for in other references for the actual calculations. Going off what has worked in similar circumstances is a good rule of thumb, but it requires you to have similar circumstances to compare to, which I don't.

That document looks like a really good reference, thanks! Also, weight (e.g., pounds) IS force. We just think of it as mass, being earth-centric and all.
