That cut should take a couple minutes max- either you are using the wrong kind of saw for the job, or your saw is very dull. If it gets the job done, fine - but be aware it is not the way things should be.

Another advantage to pipe clamps is that you can use couplings to combine several shorter pieces of pipe rather than having to buy the longest possible lengths you need for a given project. Gives more flexibility with lengths and is easier to store.

This answer implies that there is only one kind of aluminum that can be bought when in fact there are a number of widely used alloys. As with steels, the heat treatments that are done on many of these aluminum alloys significantly modify their properties. Finally these alloys are stronger than pure aluminum, not softer.
