comment Rebuilding a septic drain field
Correct: Don't do anything at all until you've confirmed it's up to code. You also may want to look into septic chambers instead of field lines. They're preferable, presuming you specific soil conditions and code allow it.

comment No bracket included for wall-mounted bathroom sink
I can't imagine hanging this just from the two bolt holes. Use a sink mounting bracket or put it on a pedestal.

You're on the right track: just lay another 3/4 layer of ply or osb flooring.

comment How can I stop the hose from the pump to the filter from leaking?
with the rigid plastic hoses going onto a tapered barb, you really need to push the hose on pretty tight before you ever clamp it. It really gets close to water tight just by the force of pushing it up onto the taper. The clamp mostly just stops it from sliding off. If the hose is loose when you start tightening the clamp, then it's going to leak, no matter how much you tighten the clamp.

comment Metalwork - Is it possible to achieve a smooth surface (planishing) with just hammers and slappers?
if you can get it close, body soldering is not really as hard as it might seem. So perhaps you get it close and then solder fill it from there.
