comment Comparison of various home-automation systems?
@TN: maintaining that comprehensive NPOV comparison table on a global scale on even a weekly basis would be too much to expect from a site like this.

comment Dishwasher: Can my ground wire be exposed?
@SpeedyPetey: In case someone reads this outside the USA, it may be worth noting that in some countries (perhaps in most countries with single-phase 220-240 VAC mains electricity supplies) household dishwashers are invariably plug-in appliances.

Could you take a photo with much stronger lighting (perhaps by using a camera with a flashgun)?

comment How do I trouble shoot powerline issues to my home?
Some UPSs with a USB connection can log power-line data such as voltage. Such a device may be useful in the longer term to protect a PC from power outages.

comment Radial circuit vs ring main
I'd consider getting an independent electrician to do an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) of the amended installation. Ideally the insurers of whoever made the mistake that caused the problem (unprotected cable or screws in wrong place) should pay for this (and any remedial work that gets flagged up).

comment Radial circuit vs ring main
To be safe, I think you'd have to disconnect the damaged section of the cable by severing it at the adjacent two outlets or accessible junction boxes. Unless the break is in the middle of the ring, I suspect the longer radial will need downrating as the cable might not be thick enough for the number of outlets. Is the electrician registered and able to sign the certification for the modification?
