comment Does it cost more to run a refrigerator on an extension cord?
@Daniel: moving heat from a 5C space to a 20C space takes n Joules per hour. Heating a 50m cord takes m Joules per hours more than a 2m cord does. m + n > n. QED.

For rust removal I find flap wheels more effective than wire wheels - but I'm not a statistically significant sample. I'd be tempted to try electrolysis using a battery charger, washing soda solution and a sacrificial steel anode.

@Daniel, if some power is lost in the cord, the refrigerator will run longer or cycle more often to achieve the same longer term cooling effect.

comment It it safe to have a 15 amp GFCI outlet on a 50 amp GFCI breaker?
@jpa: +1. According to diy.stackexchange.com/q/81251/2815 - the wire from the outlet to a 15A appliance is not protected against overcurrent by a typical GFCI outlet. In the situation described in the question, a fault in an appliance could therefore pull up to 50A through a 15A appliance lead and set fire to it and anything nearby. (P.S. this is why UK plugs are fused)

comment Old mortise lock bolted from inside
@anton2g: You can then use pliers to pull the square shaft partly out and to turn it (retracting the deadbolt) or something similar. Often the shafts are loose and not secured in the knob. You may need to get creative by drilling a small hole in the end of the shaft and using a screw extractor to exert torque.

comment how much weight can this square stock hold
Answers depend on the amount of deflection allowed (which is never zero) - so your question needs to include that information. Also it depends on the material: titanium, steel (what grade), aluminium, cheese?

comment Best way to run 40 lan cables in loft style office
I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because the question is about installing infrastructure in a commercial property, not about improving a home. In offices, the usual solution is to install metal cable trays under the ceiling. Usually concealed behind a false ceiling (i.e. a suspended ceiling, using ceiling tiles)

FWHA - For example, I imagine a large triple-glazed conservatory on a solid concrete foundation would reduce the noise on the ground floor.
