A fellow DIYer and amateur woodworker I like working on home projects when I'm not sitting in front of a computer.

Compared to AutoCAD the learning curve for SketchUp is a breeze!

comment How much cooling can I expect from a central air conditioner?
What is a "reasonable" temperature? In Phoenix it could be 117 outside and if your AC gets it down to 80 you're lucky. I thought the rule of thumb was that if the inside temp is more than 30 degrees different from the outside the unit was working well.

That's a good idea too! I have dropped the level a few times so maybe it's off. I'll be back with the result.

That's a good point about the doors pulling on the frame . . . I'm going to check that. The frame itself is original as is one of the two doors. I just got a new door from <insert local home center ad here> and it was the only size that would fit. I figure there was some wood strip on it to cover the opening like you see on some french doors.

I'm going to check that out! Not by the fridge at the moment but I didn't notice if the light was going on and off.

comment How to get discount prices for replacement parts
I get that volume means they can lower the price (not that it's fair or anything . . . if you buy a ton of them you can afford to pay more! Just charge the customer more! :)) but if you have a counter and you sell to people who walk in it seems to me the price could easily be the same for everyone. It's a club and to be a member you gotta jump though some hoops.

I just looked up "ice maker" and the price was $105 so I'm not sure it's much of a discount over getting it from the local supply as a walk in (as opposed to going there as a professional).

Now that's a good idea! $11.99 is a bit much but maybe I could make something out of some old sunglasses. Mmmmm..

What's interesting is that it happens in the morning or evening at just the right time so I'm not sure the emitter/detector swap would help. That said, how can I tell which is which? They look the same. Can I just switch it at the opener itself? Just curious as it wouldn't help anyway.

You think it's only because of volume? I think there is more too it.
