Trained in C, familiar with C++ and Java, spent the last 10 or so years mostly in scripting (perl, shell, etc) with a little php/ajax/js on the side. I've been running linux on just about all my systems for over 5 years, and at least partially using it since '95, mostly with Debian and now Ubuntu. Lately I'm getting back into a project using C, maybe Lua, front end with php/ajax/js, and who knows what else.

Outside of the techie stuff, I enjoy photography as a hobby and do a lot of home repair both on my own home and with the local Habitat chapter. For fun, I strap the bare necessities onto my back and enjoy a weekend of backpacking.

I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because it's about local building codes.

comment How do I repair this friction ABS kitchen sink pipe fitting
Like Michael says in his answer, replacing the inner ring is a good idea, they're cheap and easily lost when the joint comes apart.

May have been too loose. Despite the fact that you're supposed to only hand tighten them, I gently give them an extra 1/4 turn with some channel lock pliers after I get it snug. Could also be too much movement on the pipes there, you don't want items hitting the plumbing that you are pulling in and out of that cabinet.

This looks like it should be comments and/or votes on other posts, rather than a post itself. Unfortunately it's not possible to convert for you since there are multiple comments for multiple posts included in here.

Windex and laundry detergent have very different properties. Any info on whether either of these will clean ATF or negatively interact with asphalt or concrete?

comment How do I replace a 3-way switch on 2-wire cable with a programmable timer switch?
At best, replacing a 3 way switch with a 2 way switch that requires a neutral will result in a setup that doesn't work correctly. At worst, you'll create a short circuit that could damage devices on that circuit, electrocute yourself, or start a fire. So as tester101 says, if you don't have the knowledge to understand this mistake, you shouldn't be working on wiring in your home. Get professional help.
