comment How can I repair my bench grinder?
Personally, I'd get rid of it. I recently read, maybe here, about someone who had a wheel crack and they got banged up pretty bad. That sort of vibration can't be good for wheel integrity at high RPM, and bench grinders just aren't that expensive.

Love the tapcons! I second the motion to give them a try.

Nice work, we don't get enough 'after' pictures around here.

comment Proper way to cut a 2x4 using a miter saw
I've never seen it, but my guess is that it's done to keep the speed up, which means each tooth takes less wood, which makes a smoother cut.

comment What are the qualities of a top end paint versus a low end paint?
I like Sherwin Williams, not only because it's good paint, but because it's a single-purpose store. Those people really know paint, and the can also counsel on color choices. Better service is well worth the money.

comment Is there an easy way to measure the height of a tree?
Start with the pencil upright -- top aligned with the tree top, bottom marked by your thumbnail. Turn it horizontal, line the trunk up with your thumbnail and the end of the pencil marks the exact hight of the tree. It's just a giant compass.

+1. This is by far the most simple and reliable method.

comment How strong are bolts compared to welding and what qualities to look for in foundations?
But at the end of the day, does it matter which is stronger? It only matters if your final choice is strong enough to do the job properly.

comment What type of snake is this?
Agree that it's a black rat snake, esp. because of the extra body ripples.

comment Stink in Washroom - Possibilities?
I heard a really great tip for seldomly used fixtures: add a tablespoon or two of cooking oil to the drain. That layer of oil won't evaporate, and it helps prevent evaporation of whatever water's in the P-trap. I'm doing that in an un-occupied home now.

comment Forced air heating air inlet in crawl space
You might want to consider that this return is drawing moist air out of the crawl space. It could get pretty funky if air isn't exchanged at all.
