comment Why were only some of my tools damaged when connected to a 240V receptacle?
@wallyk: Actually, they do look at wiring and will regularly test outlets. Any home inspector worth his weight will indicate this. I have had inspectors note double-tapped circuits and what not. Some banks or lenders will require these things to be fixed.

Didn't the home inspection discover this?

comment What's the best option for cutting cement siding?
Score and snap. Doesn't take that long and any power tools are bound to screw it up.

comment Is it OK that the frame of my house doesn't line up with the slab?
BMitch is right.. that corner does not look strong at all.

@BMitch: I am in Florida (so my answer was a little Florida centric) and bolts were required with additional hurricane straps. At any rate, the bottom plate slipped off the edge does not pass the smell test. Also, the sheathing wouldn't lay right so I wonder why they did it this way.

I would imagine the city will inspect in phases, but by the time they go inspect the framing, sheathing will already be installed and have to be ripped out and redone.

comment Why don't people use rigid or spray foam insulation in attics?
@Compro01: In Florida at the Lowes Home Improvement Store, you buy $200 worth of celluose and you get the machine for free. It sprays through a big hose about the size the hoses used for cleaning your car. You just spray.. no skill needed. It's not complex at all and it is cheaper. You can return any unused portion and the cost goes does to $100 or less depending on how much you need. Home Depot has a similar deal.
