I am a total newbie when it comes to programming (been like that for the last 12 years!). I dabble a lot and have built websites and Windows apps, but I don't consider myself a programmer, as I don't really know whether I am doing it right. (but my applications and websites work, just don't know if I am using the best methods and techniques etc... example I once used a DataTable rather than a Generic.Dictionary - Newbie!!! - But don't worry I have fixed that now. ;))

Currently a Support Manager/IT Manager for an MIS software company.

Thoroughly enjoying MongoDB, Node.JS and Express at the moment.

Ended up using NoMorePly as the tile backing boards. 12mm on the walls and 6mm on the floors.

Tester101, thanks very much. Actually I think the easy way in your models looks the best. The ones with the transitions seem to be awkward to my view. BTW, you model diagram is almost exactly right. :)

ChrisF, thanks for the reply. I was thinking that, but just want it to look clean. I need to try and find some examples where 'professionals' have done the same thing. I think the two heights is the best approach though as the lower floor level already uses a higher board than the rest of the house.

Tester101, I was trying to work out how to get a picture here.

thanks for the reply. The problem is that the step is a single one and doesn't really have the ability to have an angle section on it. The opening is on the higher level and the other side of the opening is the lower floor level.

did I answer my own question in that last comment? I thought you were referring to the sand and cement ratio as opposed to the plasticiser to sand/cement mix.

thanks for the comment. I think I have seen the Aquapanel brand before and will definitely check it out. Now just need to see if Ridgeons sell it. :)
