What could cause kerosene-like odor from a gas oven/range? I'll mark this one as the correct answer because of misleading info in the question, and this one was sorta on the right track. So, what happened is that under my kitchen sink, I had a very minor leak which lead to the bottom of a can of mineral spirits RUSTING OUT. They were low-odor spirits, so only faint, but the entire area under the sink was wet with spirits -- even a sopping rag. I'm certain the volatile spirits which were concealed less than 6 feet from the stove must be to blame. I have cleaned out the area. Thanks for your help! |

What could cause kerosene-like odor from a gas oven/range? I was thinking that if it were something burning, it should have burned off, by now. But the odor persists. |

What could cause kerosene-like odor from a gas oven/range? I ran the burner without igniting it for a few seconds to get a whiff of the "gas" smell for comparison sake -- It's definitely not the same odor I get when running the burners. |

What could cause kerosene-like odor from a gas oven/range? It's a GE 5 burner sealed burner conventional oven/range. The cover seems immovable. I'm sure nothing was spilled. I'm starting to wonder if the gas company has increased the mercaptan levels. |

What could cause kerosene-like odor from a gas oven/range? Would the area underneath the range immediately get warm when a single stover burner, alone, was burning on med-low? |

What could cause dishwasher waste water to back up into the bathtub? I'm not a plumber, but I'm not sure I buy the no-vent theory... The vent is where air enters the line, to displace sewage moving down the line. Without the vent, a vacuum would build up behind the sewage and prevent it from progressing towards the sewage main or the septic tank. If the tub was acting as a vent in this situation, I would think that air would be entering through the tub drain; not sewage exiting through it. |

Can I sense filter replacement need based on filter pressure drop? When I was doing HVAC SCADA work, compound filter systems were always treated as a single filter, i.e. the pressure drop was measured over the entire filter system as a single unit, rather than each filter in series. This might have been to keep costs down, but I imagine it was done this way, because it doesn't matter if the first filter was dirty, or the second, because in either case, an HVAC tech would have to go out to the site to replace one (and most likely both) filters. When your TV remote batteries get weak, to you only replace the worst battery or go ahead and replace both? |

Can I sense filter replacement need based on filter pressure drop? Is the fan before or after the filters in the plenum? Are you drawing a vacuum on the filters, or forcing air into them? |
