comment What would cause mortar to have a patchy finish?
I think it may be due to the fact I was trying to keep the joints wet while tucking but it was really hard to do constantly as the stone really sucked up the moisture quickly. Further, I might have forgot to turn off the dehumidifier during one round of tucking...

@OrganicLawnDIY doh - just returned a bottle of that after my tiling job. Should other acids for gout (I have a 1/2 bottle leftover of the DuPont stuff) work?

comment Should I replace my magnetron? Is there anything else upstream of the mode stirrer?
I swapped with another magnetron, but had no luck; I'll hunt for the temperature fuse tomorrow and report back if it's separate.

comment How can I prevent grout from sticking in the small dimples in tiles?
Humm, to be extra cautious, do you think I could run a hard bar of soap over the surface to fill all to voids?

comment Can I replace 3-way switches with 4-way switches?
my guess is the toggles you have can be used as 4-ways as well; but that's not really your question. bcworkz pretty much answers your question; one connection on your 4-way will just be left empty.

Seems like a strange question as most 3-way switches can be installed as 4-way switches (multi). The only time I've seen this not be the case is with a z-wave device, but I don't do this kind of stuff often. What exactly are you trying to replace and with what?

@Tester101 also no phone number for the vendor.

@Tester101 strange, I can't find my tile on there, but my guess is you are correct. However my question remains: FTFM: "Use the appropriate trowel notch size to ensure proper bedding of the tile, brick or stone selected. Work the latex Portland cement mortar into good contact with the substrate and comb with notched side of trowel."

@Tester101 the box only specifies preferred and minium grout joint size. The manufacturer "stone logic" doesn't seem to exist on the internet.

-1 (and flagging) for RTFM per stack exchange guidelines

+1 for the comment about bowing; I hadn't considered it. It seems like back-buttering would always be the easiest way tot tile. Is there a reason the people don't always back-butter tile?
