comment How to get experience handling power outlets without electrocution?
Hmm. Regional differences again! Apprenticeships here in Australia to become an Electrician are only 2 or 3.

Becoming a qualified electrician implicitly means learning the safe way to do things. And yes, I do forget that in some parts of the world it is not illegal to work on household wiring without certification.

comment What would cause lack of Oxygen in cellar
CO2 is likely. Our respiratory systems are sensitive to the levels of CO2, not the levels of O2. NASA found that out the hard way when they used to fill moth-balled space modules with an inert gas - someone would enter it and pass out without warning. Add only a few percent of CO2 and they notice breathing difficulties in more than enough time to get out again.

comment Why is it safe to use 15 A receptacles on a 20 A circuit?
I can't provide an answer to that specific incident. I was trying to explain how the ratings work with the regulations. In my experience the breaker would have tripped. Perhaps the tap wasn't in fact correctly certified.

You're missing the point. A device sold with a 15 Amp plug is not supposed to draw more than 15 amps. That's the rules. But the plug itself will almost certainly survive 20 amps with no damage because the rules say you put a 20 amp fuse on a circuit with 15 amp sockets. In fact, I know the cable will survive 30 amps undamaged (I've seen it).

In that case, you still want everything other than the breaker to be able to pass more than 20A the breaker will trip at.

comment What should I check if my chainsaw fails to start?
I'll second cleaning the carby. Most mowers I've used are absolute bears to start if the carby hasn't been emptied at the end of the last run.

comment Is this shower trap better than a P-Trap?
Just as another perspectice, a bathroom or laundry in Australia without a floor drain is very unusual. I think it may even be mandatory in new construction.

For those outside the UK, NZ or AU, "Freeview" is largely a marketing term for digital terrestrial television.

Sounds like your sink tap's thread is metric, actually.
