How do I repair a canned light that's falling down? A picture would be helpful. It sounds like the ceiling box, which contains the light's wiring and supports the light fixture, might have come loose. It should be mounted on a joist in your ceiling, above the drywall. If it was pulled down or otherwise came loose from the supporting joist, you may need to get into the ceiling to reattach it. |

How do I wire an old house with Cat6? I hadn't thought about interference, good point. However, I have a run of cheap unshielded cat5e that goes for about 25 feet directly alongside the central beam of my house -- surrounded by as many as 10 power cables -- and have never noticed a problem. (This run goes to my file server and printer and is used daily for work and videos.) |

Determining if there is insulation behind a wall In Massachusetts, the MassSave program provides audits for free. See masssave.com . MassSave is a consortium financed by the state's utility companies, and CSG has the contract for doing the audits. I had a very good experience with them and will be doing some of the insulation improvements they recommended. If you're in MA or have a similar program available in your state, it's certainly worth a shot. |
