He's asking for ideas to improve an appearance of something not where to buy xyz. You're free to propose something entirely different that he could try.

Ok I think I might just make up some frames and drywall it. What is the best way to attach it to the ceiling? Given that it'd best be quite close to an already lowish ceiling (2.4m stud height). Would I make the whole thing first or make a frame and attach that, then put the drywall underneath?

That's great, now I'm seeing what I'm looking for. But not much out there on how to build it apart from buying crazy expensive prebuilt ones. Do you have any recommendations?

comment Can I add a retaining wall to the base of the existing face?
There is a neglegible sideways force at 9" high. The fence posts will carry it easily vertical.

He's only going 9" up and his fence looks like it should be able to handle it.

Hardly any sideways pressure on 9". You should get away with attaching treated 6x2" across the posts right to the bottom. I'd then coat it with mulseal or a thick black plastic despite being treated.

comment Why is the polyurethane finish I applied a month ago still tacky?
How thickly did you apply it? did you allow time for it to cure between coats?

comment Why doesn't the paint stick to new ingrain wallpaper?
What we call a pigmented sealer should be applied first over the wallpaper.

comment What should I do about an exposed wire for landscape lighting?
That could have happened before when there was a light attached. Mains lighting shouldn't be used in the garden it should all be low voltage. Hopefully the original cable is buried deep. But I agree, disconnecting at the source (inside the home) is the best option.

comment Clear wood finish with minimal color/sheen change?
Can you do a test patch on some unseen part? I'd consider an oil finish.

comment Can I use a single cable for cable rails?
It's not a lot of money to do it properly with the official stuff. But I think you'd get away with eyes and turn buckles on each wire. rather than looping it through the posts so many times. I'm sure that would get quite stuck.

I doubt you'll be able to drill curved channels that enable the wires to pull straight and tight.

comment What should I do about a crack in the concrete slab in my living room?
The slab looks very thin. Settling crack I suspect. Not even thick enough for rebar. That's the issue.
