comment Can I use a 6 foot long table as the base for a stand up desk?
Just an update. I finally decided to move to V.2 of my standup desk use. The filing cabinets were great for storage but they were just a little too high for me. I had bought a workbench from Sam's for the pantry that I love. I bought a second and now use it for my desk. doc-walker.com/Other/SmugShots/i-WzB36BZ/0/M/… It is a bit lower and not as long. It also fits our living room colors better. I am thinking of getting monitor arms to help get them up a little higher.

Theron, Where are you located? I might be able to point you to a cheap source for the door and cabinets if you wanted to go that route.

That is a HAG Capisco chair. haginc.com/products/hag-capisco I got it here: ergodepot.com/HAG_Capisco_p/8106.htm Love it. You can sit on it or use it for half standing, half sit.

The 3 drawer cabinets were recycled. Check out a used office furniture supply store. With all of the businesses closing, and no longer using as much paper, there are a lot of these laying around our area for cheap. The door was also recycled. You can find them at salvage places, closing business sales, etc.

comment Is it common to have no ceiling joists above joist-parallel walls?
As Auujay said. You want to replace the support that you are removing. Even if it is not a load bearing wall, removing things can cause shifting and settling over time. I have found that it can be a good idea to replace the strength and support that you remove.

comment How do I refill a fire extinguisher or should I just buy a new one?
Actually these units are refillable. I have done it. I just do not recommend it as it can and will probably leak. I worked 5 years as a extinguisher repair tech. Here is the recharge adapter for that unit brooksequipment.com/Service_Equipment/Recharge_Adapters/… My comment was also addressing the fire departments not filling them. There are a couple reasons they don't do it any more. liability, cost, and certification

Most local fire departments no longer fill extinguishers. There are some. I would recommend not even attempting to fill this one. Buy one with a metal head.
