comment What type of glue should I use to repair my hardwood floor?
Why do you recommend the Titebond III over a Liquid Nails product?

In my case, the boards are being glued in the tongue/groove joint. Does the construction glue have any advantage over the Titebond III suggested by shirlock homes?

comment How do I handle significant snow and ice dams on a 4/12 gable roof with ridge vents?
The problem I had with raking the roof, was the ice dams reformed but now they were further up the roof where I couldn't reach them. For my house, since I can't clear the entire roof, I'm better off trying to deal with ice dams at the drip edge where I can reach them and where my ice/water shield is providing protection.

I should add that my roof line ends just a few inches past the wall. I don't have an overhang like you find in most home construction.

@Shirlock - No offense, I probably wasn't clear enough. I removed insulation from the bottom, not the peak. As I stated, warm air rises and thaws from the top first, so I had to get warm air to the bottom so the thawed water wouldn't refreeze.

comment Determining if there is insulation behind a wall
You can also try renting a fiber optic camera. This will allow you to actually look inside the wall. Even if you have insulation, that doesn't rule out possible gaps and openings in the insulation which can allow drafts of cold air into the walls.

I wish I could give a +2 for finding a mirror under the mirror.

comment How to fix a leaky flapper valve?
Can you replace the rubber gasket the flapper valve seals against? It could be old and brittle which prevents a good seal when the valve closes down on it.

comment Can I change a 1-gang electrical box to a 2-gang electrical box?
Currently, we do use power bars in a couple of the rooms but the wife doesn't like them, particularly in the baby's room and wants to plug things into the wall outlet.

We have a couple of those converters but the extra thickness causes problems when placed behind furniture.

comment Why do I have a reduced flame in my natural gas fireplace when the furnace or water heater runs?
+1: If nothing has changed in the house or gas plumbing, then it sounds like an issue with your gas pressure. Your gas service should be rated for a certain psi coming into the house. Your utility provider might provide testing of their service without you having to pay for a pro to come in and test it.

comment Can I connect an outdoor wood stove to my current HVAC system?
That makes sense because you are pulling in hot air from close proximity to the stove within an area without much air flow to disperse the hot air. However, if the stove is sitting outside in cold weather, there probably isn't going to be much hot air to pull into the duct system.

+1 for advice to check insurance policy. I didn't know certain stoves could invalidate your home owner's insurance policy.

Do you have a basement below the grade? Are you getting any water leaking through the walls into the basement? Are you seeing any evidence of water getting under the house, or do you just see erosion and the ground sloping down toward the house?

comment What precautions should I take installing tile on a backerboard in an area surrounded by cement?
I read just the opposite that modified is used in 'airtight' locations, like under Ditra or some other impermeable barrier. However, I would always follow the manufacturer's recommendation.

Sounds like a faulty switch since it works once after being reset.
