Carpenter and Contractor turned web developer.

I love building things with my hands, but I also love the mental challenge of programming. I am mostly interested in online web development using HTML/CSS with javascript/jQuery and PHP and really trying to master these things.

I spend my free time reading about and writing PHP. I am interested in design patterns and practice.

Some building codes are more strict on variability than this. But in general it is a good guideline. +1

comment Best Technique to Achieve Perfect Cut-Outs in a 2x4
Router & Templates are the way to go for perfect duplication, especially if not good with a jigsaw. If you plan on using it often, you can use template bushings with straight bits instead of more expensive bits with bearings. You can also cut out most of the wood with a jigsaw and finish up with the router to extend bit life and make it easier. Also, it looks like 1x6 in that image, not 2x4.

comment What are these wires I found in my yard?
Quite a while ago I used to work for the gas company and we'd tape a tracer wire to the pipe when installing. Sometimes someone would forget it and we would add it to the trench after the pipe was partially buried. However, that was only one wire as that is all that is needed for tracing.

comment What header joist sizes do I need for a loft bed?
The X-bracing is called bridging, but you can also use solid blocks (surprisingly called blocking). Joist bridging.

there is not much you could do to help airflow other than maybe increase the gaps, or add some ugly venting. Just research the decking and finish materials to see if there are any clearance or airflow requirements. I wouldn't worry too much if using western red cedar, but the choice of stain/finish would be critical and need to read the technical data sheets.
