comment What do you call a widget that holds the side of a curtain against a wall?
What where they originally created for? Do they go back to ship rigging or is it more modern?

Either should work. If the existing coat(s) show no sign of charring, you should be good. I would lean to an epoxy for both heat and wear, but the self cross linking resins in the water borne oils are tough.

comment Baseboard lumber choices for staining
Dyes on splotchy wood should finely sprayed and allowed to dry with no manual "handling". This will let the coloring penetrate evenly.. As soon as you move it on the wood surface, some areas will get more dye, causing the splotch. I usually leave the color a bit light and seal with shellac. Additional color can be glazed with a gel stain, if desired. A water borne poly makes a good top coat.

comment Is it okay to have a dryer vent in the wall cavity?
Sharp turns cause reductions in airflow and can accumulate lint faster. Longer runs are also flow reducing.. It would be helpful to know how far your wall run is and how many 90 degree turns are used.

comment How can I prevent my garage soffit vents from pulling in sewer vent smells?
Without knowing roof profiles, it would be difficult to comment, but in general, increasing the vent's elevation higher above roof should decrease its ability to backdraft. Similarly, some amount of positive pressure from a clean inlet (low on the wall) would also prevent backdraft. Is it possible the house is negatively pressurizing the garage. A makeup air handler would help in this case.

comment How can I tell if this is wood or drywall?
I'd agree with your wall diagram for a non load bearing wall. For a load bearing wall, the cripple studs may be completely replaced with a solid wood header. Either wall will certainly support the speakers
