comment When should HVAC returns be opened and closed?
Centrifugal fans, dead air, blah; thanks @Ecnerwal for the reminder. Yeah there is a much better chance to reduce the load blocking air flow. Either way it will block air flow so the same test still applies, you still want to run the HVAC as efficient as possible which typically means maximizing air flow so that your gas and/or outside unit have less duty cycles; more heat/cool transferred to the inside of the house.

comment Prevent air leaking from couplings on an air compressor hose
If the tank gets to 140 and you get 60 at the hose your regulator may be bad. Also I've never seem a quick connect permanently attached to a compressor before, you sure it's not just tight?

comment Why are two breakers controlling the same circuit?
Does the status of breaker 4 affect the lights at all? Is it possible someone re-wired the breaker on you?

comment Is it possible to rekey an Andersen exterior door with Kwikset SmartKey?
@DavidPfeffer I got a pre-release version and an off the shelf version and they both have the same 5 pin cylinder as the residential Kwikset deadbolt I've had for years and a new one from the shelf. I don't know what you're missing on it.

Those are not crimp terminals and not structural suited for it.

Kwikset makes some, the locking mechanism of the Kevo is standard it just has the added electronics and servo on top of it.

I can find anything on Andersen locks or doors; just a reseller, window company, or locksmith in Florida. The Kwikset SmartKey is scary easy to break so I'd advise to replace the cylinder of the Kevo with a bump resistant non-SmartKey. Kwikset residential locks, including the SmartKey, use a 66 key so that may help your searches. Most locksmiths as well as big box hardware stores will rekey any/all items you purchased there for free, something to consider when comparing prices to online.

comment Are T-8 lights and T-12 lights safely interchangeable?
Both T8 and T12 lamps use a G13 base; however, a T12 ballast will shorten the life a T8 lamp. Due to the US putting a ban on standard (40 watt) T12 lamps -- high efficiency ones are hard to come by but still exist -- some ballasts were made T8 & T12 compliant. Also, shopping tip, it is sometimes cheaper to buy a new light fixture with a ballast then a new ballast alone.

comment What should I use to fill drilled concrete holes that are not used anymore?
We have a few small holes left from insect treatments, we had to have a structural engineer approve the house for insurance because of other things around the house and asked him about them. We followed his advice and filled them with concrete colored 100% silicone "caulk"

comment Dishwasher automatically turning on batch feed disposer?
I'm not saying there doesn't exist a dishwasher with a internal food grinder, but I've never worked on one that had it. All I've seen is a plastic strainer/filter at the bottom and a standard discharge pump.
