comment Dowel joints in plywood
FYI: For plywood, they recommend using the coarse thread pocket screws. So, for 3/4 plywood, you would use 1 1/4" Coarse Thread pocket screws.

comment What is the easiest way to remove a large root in a post hole I'm digging?
Be sure to call JULIE before digging in Illinois. I learned that the hard way a couple weeks ago. Hit my gas supply line with a reciprocating saw while trying to dig out a root.

comment Replacing damaged shingles
Last year, we had a hailstorm that damaged the shingles. Our insurance (State Farm) came out, and cut a check right there. Since it was deemed an "act of god", our rates did not go up.

comment How do I cheaply paint walls that duct tape stripped and ruined?
@Doresoom As far as I know, the $3 samples are only flat paint (at least at all my local Home Depots)

Are you trying to monitor your whole house, or just a single outlet / device?

comment What is my drill hitting and not penetrating when I hang curtains?
Note: If you decide to punch through, go slowly and inspect the hole often. Any sign of wood under the metal is suspicious.

Some pictures and diagrams would help. It's hard to create a mental picture from just the description.

Is there some reason that you want to build vs. buy a premade headboard?

comment How to get rid of gophers in the back yard without poison?
Is there a specific reason you are averse to poison? Do you have specific objection to killing them, or is it just an issue of pets/children/etc?

comment What are cheap ways to build strong shelves with a large span?
I am not aware of any load bearing tables for typical conduit pipes. To get some idea, you can go to the hardware store and check out the conduit there. I would start with maybe 3/4" or 1" galvanized (thickwall) pipe. If you can find a spot in the store, try and prop it up at the ends and see if it will deflect under your weight.
