Our house is a 1930's suburban build on the outskirts of London, UK. It has its original roof complete with massive gaps between the roof tiles and no felt. While this does provide great roof ventilation, it can cause two issues:

  1. dirt/dust from the outside comes in and settles in the attic
  2. strong wind can drive rain or snow up under the tiles and make things wet

The attic is boarded out for easy access, and we really want to start using the storage space, but all the time that it gets covered in dirt, and there is the possibility of things being ruined by water, it limits what we can use it for.

What can we add to the inside of the roof to resolve these issues, without causing any structural problems through lack of ventilation?
