My landlord has been working on a lot of improvements around the house, and while he seems to be doing a great job, I know that often he is not completely sure of what he's doing. He is currently trying to install a large vanity adjacent to a doorway (the door swings away from the vanity), and it protrudes by a significant amount into the horizontal clearance of the doorway.

His solution is to make an angled cut, essentially cutting off a corner of the counter; however I suspect he may still be in violation of some building code even after the cut, but I don't want to approach him without something concrete. I'm afraid he's about to go to a lot of trouble (and some expense) to cut this down and make it work, only to have the inspector say he wasted his time and have him put in another.

How much clearance is required around a doorway?
