I've been playing with load tables for wood beams in the context of framing a floor. The tables assumes uniform load, which seems valid if the joists are just sitting on the headers. But what if they are attached using a blind or through tenon...

  • Wouldn't the wood removed for the mortise weaken the header joist?
  • Wouldn't the wood removed around the tenon weaken the joist?
  • Is there a way to calculate the lost strength?
  • Since some of the support comes from tensile strength, would the answer change if the M&T wasn't glued?
