I purchased a handmade toolbox, an an auction, made form an old peach crate and old velveta and American cheese boxes for drawers. It was used in a workshop and has oil and grease stains all over it from years of use. How can I clean it up? My wife would like to place it in her craftroom because it had belonged to her great-uncle.

You can remove surface grime but the wood is permanently discolored. This is considered to be patina and removing it would reduce the historic value of the piece in the eyes of many. – bcworkz Jul 14 '13 at 19:06
