I cut a 6" opening in an insulated door into the utility room then installed a 6" metal duct with a plastic exterior vent cover. I put 6" insulated flexible duct on the interior stub and let it hang to the floor where I put it into a 5 gallon bucket as suggested in an earlier post. PROBLEM: cold air is overflowing the bucket with out the negative pressure of the combustion prompting it. How to control so no cold air except when pulled by furnace burning?

Can you link to the earlier post, please? It's difficult to tell what problem you're trying to solve here, so a bit more information might be useful. It sounds like you followed bad advice, and need help remedying the situation. But it's difficult to provide a good solution, without knowing exactly what you're trying to do. – Tester101♦ Feb 10 at 13:18
