I live in Canada, and I have taken down a ceiling fan light fixture and then hooked up a regular light fixture.

I found the light remains on and does not work with the switch. I have never had this problem before and it has me plain stumped as I thought I was a fairly skilled handyman type of guy. I tested the switch and there is no power at the swich now. Everything seems to be hooked up right (live to live; neutral to neutral; and ground to ground): I even bought a new wall light switch (before discovering no power to the switch). Now this is the stumper... the light switch on the wall did work before disconecting the original ceiling fan. Now since hooking up the new fixture the light seems to be hardwired as it won't switch off??

How many cables do you have going into the box for the light fixture and how many going into the box for the wall switch? – Niall C. Feb 3 at 0:32

Can you list all the wires in the ceiling box (don't forget to describe which cable each wire is a part of)? It sounds like the feeder from the panel goes to the ceiling box, and there should be another cable that runs between the ceiling box and the switch box on the wall. – Tester101♦ Feb 3 at 13:30
Was the fan controlled by the switch in question or was there a remote (or both)? – bib Feb 4 at 19:58
