Recently got a Home Energy audit and the company provided a quote to perform the following: - Open Cell foam insulation for Attic ceiling. He didn't measure the attic ceiling square footage, instead he measured the floor: 20' x 26' = 530 sqft. For a thickness of 8in to achieve approx. R-30 insulation. - Open Cell foam insulation in basement rim joist, all 4 walls - Cantelievers, approx 1' x 20' also Open Cell foam. All for $6,400.00 in Nassau County, Long Island NY.

Also, if its pertinent, the door-blower test showed a rating of: 3,600 He says, a house of this size, 2400 sqft, should be around 1600 (half).

I have no clue if this is a fair price or not.

Honestly, I would do the Batt insulation myself on the attic floor, but we are trying to save it for storage. This is why we're considering the attic ceiling.

Any help would be appreciated. I just don't want to be taken for a ride.

Thanks

Closed this as too localized. A more general question, asking about general cost ranges per square foot for this kind of insulation, might be acceptable. But, as @shirlockhomes says, get three quotes. – Vebjorn Ljosa Dec 11 '12 at 11:06
