This is going to be more about protocol than actual DIY work. I own a condo that is part of an association. We have underground parking with assigned spots. I'm thinking about getting an electric car, which means I'll need to charge it over night. I'm considering installing a 220volt "Level 2" device in my parking spot.

How should I approach this situation? Do I start by getting an estimate from an electrician, then go to the association with some data? Do I get the association's tentative approval first?

Per the faq : This question is off topic as it does not deal with how to install the charging station yourself, but how to deal with your association. That depends upon your association agreement and how much right you have to modify your space as a property owner. – The Evil Greebo Nov 14 '12 at 14:43
I was on the edge asking it. Fair enough, I'm ok with it getting closed. – Billdr Nov 14 '12 at 14:44

And if you decide to do the work yourself (with an electrician oversite, for example) there are lots of questions you CAN ask here! ;) – The Evil Greebo Nov 14 '12 at 14:48
