I believe that due to poor gluing of the rubber to the window and/or probably other reasons that I'm not aware, mold has started to "dance" inside the window and probably window frame as well..., at the top and bottom there are two holes, a weird smell comes out of it, I'm thinking of somehow flooding from top with some kind of liquid in order to get rid of this smell.

Windows are washed about once a month usually, but this summer someone was a bit lazy..., I've also recently found out that pvc windows require some special treatment every 6 months or so, we haven't done anything special nor did we know about that up until recently.

Any thoughts and/or suggestions are highly appreciated!!

  • windows are ~10 years old

How old are the windows? It sounds like the seal has broken and you need new sealed units. – ChrisF♦ Oct 16 '12 at 19:32

You probably won't be able to claim on the guarantee then :) You might be able to replace the sealed unit though. – ChrisF♦ Oct 16 '12 at 20:27
@ChrisF does this mean that the windows are bricked?! I just finished cleaning small strings of mold around window frame(on the rubbers, only in some parts...), barely noticeable, but when you use a toothbrush, damn!!! – ComputerSaysNo Oct 16 '12 at 20:29

It is indeed possible to fix as you describe. Drill holes in the sealed double pane unit, top and bottom. Inject a cleaning fluid. Drain. And now keep the units vented (not sealed) in the future.

A franchise outfit called Glass Guru will do this professionally and warrant the results.

Also check for warranty: 10 years is typical, but some are much longer.

Please post some photos so we understand what you have. The Glass Guru system pumps in cleaning fluid, sucks it out, then leaves the holes open for the panes to dry out. – Bryce Oct 28 '12 at 0:05
