In my household I have a lot of electrical devices with low voltage power supply (router, telephone, LED-lamp, radio etc.). Each device brings its own power supply. This often looks like this:

Wouldn't it be more practical, better-looking, and economical to power multiple devices from one supply? The problem is, they require different voltage (12V, 6V, 5V, 4V) and there seem to be too many standards for cables and plugs (except 5V which I would use (micro)-USB for. Cables and power strips for mains electricity are cheaply available but how do power and wire low voltage safely? What disadvantages exist?

Part of your question is aesthetic, which is off topic. The rest of of your question is nonsensical - specifically two parts - 1) "...how do power and wire low voltage safely?" - and as such cannot be answered; and 2) the last question - what disadvantages with regard to what? Suggest you submit a new question and pay more careful attention to the proofreading - consider it from the perspective of someone else not knowing what you're talking about. There exist power supplies that do something similar to what Jakob wants. Some electric guitar players are enamored with pedals and have lots of them. All those pedals want either 9V batteries or wall bugs. So there exist pedalboard power supplies to power a bunch of these pedals from a single supply box. Do a google image search for "pedalboard power supply". – Kaz Oct 10 '12 at 6:13
@Kaz Thanks a lot for this great hint! So from what I'v read: if it's sure that all devices use same voltage and same voltage levels I just need a daisy chain cable (limited by the total ampere of power supply and cables). For different voltage it's better to have an isolated power supply with multiple outputs. If this question was not closed, we could elaborate this a bit more in detail. – Jakob Oct 10 '12 at 8:17
