I'm using Kenmore upright vacuum Model : #40139000 (Please google this model number if necessary. I can include only two hyperlinks)

Since there was thick layer of dirts on the filter, it has not worked very well. But after tearing off and knocking off the dirt, it seems to work better than before.

Question 1. I wonder whether I still have to replace the filter. Can replacing the filter significantly improve the vacuum performance? (even though I already cleaned the filter)

Question 2. Since the filter for this model is much more expensive than that of other models, I wonder if I can use another filter.

Replacement filter I want to use : Kenmore CF-1 Chamber Vacuum Filter ( 20-86883 ) - Generic http://tinyurl.com/cdkb3pl

Authentic filter :: Part # DJ63-00802A http://tinyurl.com/cmx2t44
