i am adding on to our house, i found out that the city will NOT allow me to do the electrical portion of the project. They said a licensed electrician must do the work. It is only one room, and I need 5 outlets, 2 lights indoors, 2 lights on the outside, 4 switches, and a 220 outlet installed. Is there a way to calculate it out and find an estimation of what ill be paying?

Somewhere between $45.00 - $100.00 per hour + materials + additional fees. Get at least 3 quotes before choosing an Electrician, and remember the cheapest is not always the best choice. – Tester101 Mar 6 '12 at 16:32
Have you asked if you can do the work, and then have it inspected by an Electrician? – Tester101 Mar 6 '12 at 16:34
be wary of people that want a deposit before giving a quote. When we bought our house, the first thing I did was convert the fuses to breakers with new supply line (upgraded service) and almost everyone I called wanted money to give me a quote. I picked one, he came out, quoted and did the work the following day, waiving the quote price. – lsiunsuex Mar 6 '12 at 18:12
