Our Asko washing machine got flooded a few months ago here in Northern Bangkok. It is at a repair shop now and there we were told that to replace a chip - not sure what type of chip - we would have to pay around $500 US. Is that a normal fee for a chip? What type of chip would that be?

If it is a machine with any electronics in itit could be the "motherboard". I don't know how things work in Thailand, but I would suggest looking at your homeowners insurance policy and seeing if that venue makes sense. – Aaron Jan 28 '12 at 4:13
Thanks Aaron. The washing machine is not covered by any of our insurances and we found the $500 pretty steep. Just wanted to know if this was a regular price to make sure I was getting a fair deal if I would go for it. But if we cannot get it any cheaper we will probably go for a new washing machine next to the Whirlpool he is able to fix.. – rhand Jan 28 '12 at 4:58
Part prices vary by location so its hard for anyone to say if that is reasonable or not. – Steven Jan 28 '12 at 15:22
