I have a quote for a Wolf gas range and a Sub-Zero fridge and wine fridge. The kitchen supplier is offering a 5% discount off the list price but I understand that some folks regularly get 15% to 20% off.

Is there a rule of thumb as to what kind of discount retailers are able to give on these products?

Note: I am in Switzerland which is a smaller market than the US with less price competition, but I am still interested in knowing if there is a consensus in other markets.

You can just try for a higher discount. If they say no, then you aren't losing anything. (Unless it's culturally unacceptable to push for what might be seen as unreasonable discounts.) – Hemm Nov 17 '11 at 19:42

Understand @BMitch but this is really a question about margins more than a pricing question. I am asking how much margin the retailers make on these types of appliances to find out how much they could share. I suspect this would still be useful and relevant info 5 years from now. It is more like asking what is the best way/place to buy these appliances which i suspect would not be off-topic. – Zippy Nov 18 '11 at 8:42
